Square Enix Invests in Web3 Platform and NFT HyperPlay

The investment aligns with Square Enix's renewed emphasis on blockchain and Web3 technologies.

Square Enix, a leading Japanese technology company, behind famous franchises such as Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts and a series of popular games globally, has officially signed a cooperation agreement with the platform native crypto and web3 gaming platform HyperPlay from March 19.

This partnership comes with an investment from Square Enix, the specific amount of which was not disclosed, but is expected to be used to scale and upgrade HyperPlay’s game store.

Within the scope of this partnership, Square Enix’s “SYMBIOGENESIS” art product, a MetaMask-based experience for digital asset ownership, will be released on the HyperPlay platform.

Hideaki Uehara, General Manager of Investments at Square Enix, emphasized the extraordinary excitement for this investment and partnership in a statement to the press, and said that the HyperPlay team has created a unique product aims to improve game distribution and promote new business models that benefit game developers.

This investment and partnership comes as Square Enix executives are working to modernize the company’s organizational structure to support new technologies such as blockchain, Web3 and artificial intelligence (WHO).

JacobC.eth, Founder of HyperPlay, also shared in a press statement that this investment will support HyperPlay in its mission to raise standards in the gaming industry:

“We believe the biggest problems in the industry stem from legacy distribution platforms, which prevent game developers from exploiting the full potential of Web3. Furthermore, as builders in the game industry, we understand the importance of creating new business models that increase the motivation of both players and developers, towards a sustainable and quality gaming system.”

The CEO also shared that there is more notable news to be announced:

“HyperPlay is planning to expand its native web3 game distribution platform. We are focused on increasing the number of game stores, expanding our reach across more platforms, and creating new distribution channels to attract players to the game and enhance the user experience on the platform web platform3. You can expect more new features and similar announcements in the near future.”

A HyperPlay representative has also revealed that the company is planning to announce expanded access to the platform for users on Mac soon.

Additionally, the company also revealed plans for Q2 2024 for an upcoming integration with Amazon to open Prime users into HyperPlay’s ecosystem.

According to a company representative, “users who are Amazon Prime members will have the ability to launch games from Amazon Prime Gaming directly from HyperPlay and can also experience exclusive benefits, free games and Other perks from the HyperPlay Store.”
