Zerebro Founder Found Alive After Faking Death

Jeffy Yu, the founder of Zerebro, was found to be alive and staying at his parents' home after reportedly livestreaming a "fake death."

Zerebro Founder Found Alive After Faking Death

According to an investigation by The San Francisco Standard, Jeffy Yu, the 22-year-old co-founder of the Zerebro project, was found alive and well at his parents’ home in the Crocker-Amazon neighborhood of San Francisco, California.

Standing outside the two-story house, wearing shorts, a T-shirt, and slippers, Yu appeared visibly anxious and agitated when approached by local reporters. When asked about the fake obituary and alleged illicit profits, Yu declined to comment and instead lashed out:

“My information has been leaked and I’m being harassed! If you found me, others will too. I need to move my parents out of here this week… Can’t you see the PTSD in my eyes?”

He then demanded that the reporters leave the premises.

Previously, Jeffy Yu was believed to have committed suicide during a livestream on the platform Pump.fun on May 4, 2025. Shortly after the alleged incident, an automated post appeared on his blog stating, “If you’re reading this, my 72-hour dead man switch has been triggered.” The message included a manifesto introducing Legacoins and launching LLJEFFY, a Solana-based memecoin, which Yu described as his “final artistic creation” and “eternal digital tomb.”

However, investigators quickly identified several red flags:

1

  • Suspicious livestream footage: Viewers noted the use of orange lighting effects, rather than the flash of a firearm, casting doubt on the video’s authenticity.

  • Active wallet behavior: Blockchain analytics firm Bubblemaps reported that wallets linked to Yu continued to make transactions after his supposed death.

  • Dubious obituary: The only obituary was posted on Legacy.com, a paid obituary site with a 1.3-star Trustpilot rating. The post has since been removed.

  • No official death record: The local coroner’s office confirmed to Decrypt that no deaths under the name Yu had been recorded during the stated period.

  • Silence from Zerebro: The project’s official social channels have made no statement regarding their co-founder’s “death.”

The mounting evidence strongly suggests that Jeffy Yu may have faked his death in a calculated exit scam. Several sources close to the matter describe his actions as a “ridiculous stunt,” warning that profiting off a hoax death could permanently damage his future in the space.
