Solana’s Saga phone suddenly became a “hot item” because of a memecoin
Sharing on X, co-founder Solana Raj Gokal said Saga’s sales have increased 10 times in the past 48 hours. Most likely, Saga may sell out before the new year arrives. Meanwhile, just a week ago, the founder revealed that the company had only sold 2,200 units even though it had been on shelves for more than half a year.

This growth was so sudden that Gokal’s partner, Anatoly Yakovenko, had to tweet that they had to increase product prices.

The excitement revolves around Bonk – a meme coin with a dog symbol created on Solana. Similar to Dogecoin – turning the tide for Saga. Saga’s Discord community is going wild as a bunch of new users claim they bought the phone to receive the BONK airdrop. According to information from the memecoin project, the airdrop is only for those who download the Bonk app from Saga’s app store.

Each Saga phone owner received about 30 million BONK via airdrop. With the price at the time of writing being 0.0000233SD, the total value of this token is nearly 700 USD. This amount is still high compared to the cost of buying the phone which is 599 USD. Notably, BONK also just reached a new ATH price when listed on Coinbase yesterday.

A user who identified himself as a Solana Mobile employee said:
After owning the phone, you can create Genesis tokens through the dApp to receive the BONK airdrop.
Another user noted that the airdrop program does not have to last indefinitely. But Bonk can close the token claim portal at any time.
Saga is a blockchain-connected smartphone that comes with special features that help store crypto securely on the phone’s specialized hardware.
Bonk was once a shocking name with its airdrop of 50% of the total supply for Solana users. Despite its small starting point, Bonk quickly won the hearts of many users and the Solana ecosystem in general.
