Hamster Kombat lost 259 million players in just 3 months
According to a summary report from Protos, the famous tap-to-earn project Hamster Kombat once boasted a huge user base of 300 million, but lost 259 million players in just 3 months.
Currently, the game’s monthly active players are only about 41 million, which is a decrease of 85% compared to the 300 million that the project recorded in Season 1, which took place from March 26 to September 26, 2024.
The project’s token, listed on most major and minor exchanges with a starting price of $0.01 per HMSTR on September 26, has been around for nearly two months, but the chart shows only a continuous downward trend. Currently, HMSTR is trading around $0.0023, equivalent to a decrease of up to 77%.
Although once promoted by Telegram founder Pavel Durov as a way to help hundreds of millions of ordinary users access blockchain technology, Hamster Kombat’s sketchy AI graphics and unattractive gameplay are not enough to retain this huge number of players.
Airdrop Disappointment
Notably, this decline occurred after Hamster Kombat announced a token launch schedule to distribute airdrops to players in August 2024. Many players shared that they spent nearly half a year experiencing the game, but when the token was listed, the value received after 6 months only fluctuated between 5 and 30 USD, a figure too small compared to the promise of “this will be the biggest airdrop in the history of cryptocurrency”. Since then, Hamster Kombat has faced a wave of backlash after the airdrop was promoted as “the biggest in history”. Nigerian media even reported that many players felt betrayed and deceived by the game’s token airdrop program.

Hamster Kombat has also caused concern for national governments. The Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian army warned that the game is a “soft power” tool of the West to distract the population from the upcoming presidential election of the Persian Empire. He also emphasized that the game represents a dangerous trend of “earning without working” – dreaming of wealth without effort. The chairman of the Russian State Duma even called for the game to be banned, claiming that Hamster Kombat is a scam.
The Hamster Kombat team is currently working on Season 2, which will include a new airdrop plan and a number of gameplay updates, in the hope of “attracting a large number of new players to offset the significant decline after Season 1” – which has received a lot of criticism.
