One of the most highly anticipated games in the Web3 space for 2023 is undoubtedly Big Time (BIGTIME). It has garnered significant attention from gamers, thanks to its compelling gameplay and a highly experienced development team, coupled with substantial backing from backers.

What is Big Time?

Big Time is a multiplayer action RPG game built on the Ethereum blockchain and can be played on PC and MAC. The game is set in a world called “Time’s End,” where players form teams of six to complete missions. In this unique universe, players uncover ancient mysteries and future civilizations in their own way. They collect rare loot, NFTs, and tokens by battling and defeating enemies. The NFTs collected in the game can be used for customizing avatars, trading, and gifting to friends.

Big Time falls into the Web3 Game category, built on the blockchain with a Free to Play mechanism, meaning you don’t have to invest money to play it. Anyone who loves Big Time can participate in the game for free.

Unlike other blockchain games that require players to set up complex crypto wallets, Big Time integrates its entire system directly into the game, providing a seamless and convenient experience for new players. This is the kind of “GameFi experience” we’ve all been waiting for, bringing GameFi closer to reality.

Big Time is one of the first AAA blockchain games to offer a genuinely enjoyable and entertaining experience for players. The game caters to all types of players, whether familiar with GameFi or not, making it accessible to a wide audience. The development team also emphasizes the importance of Cosmetic NFTs (commonly known as skins) to establish a sustainable, long-lasting in-game item ownership system for players.

Big Time Character System

Big Time (BIGTIME) character

Players begin the game by choosing a character that they cannot change until they find a pocket watch obtained by defeating enemies. The pocket watch allows players to switch between different characters and serves as a way to save progress as players level up.

Characters can be customized with clothing and armor inspired by various historical eras. There are four main character classes:

1. Time Warriors: Tanks that absorb the brunt of enemy attacks, with a unique buff to increase the HP of nearby players and recover it when hit.

2. Quantum Fixers: Healers who can boost allies’ attack, movement speed, magic damage, mitigation, cooldown reduction, and energy regeneration, as well as reduce enemy evasion and blocking rates. They can also revive and heal allies within a certain range.

3. Chronomancers: Mages that deal with multiple enemies at once, with attacks that deal damage over time and slow down enemies within a radius. They also perform long-range attacks to amplify damage.

4. Shadowbladers: High-damage dealers focusing on quick, lethal blows. They have skills that increase melee damage, making them swift but with low defense.

5. Battlemancer: Close-range damage dealers who use elements to defeat enemies.

6. TechBlade: A class capable of dealing both ranged and close-range damage while healing allies when needed, combining aspects of Shadowblade and Quantum Fixer classes.

To change character classes during the game, you need a Pocket Watch. It allows players to switch between different characters and save game progress when leveling up.

Weapons in Big Time (BIGTIME)

Big Time features various weapons, each with its own unique characteristics. Some of them include:

– Battle Axe: High damage, ideal for one-on-one combat.
– Dual Swords: High-speed, capable of attacking multiple enemies simultaneously.
– Greatsword: A massive sword for clearing out enemy hordes.
– Shield & Short Sword: A combination of a sturdy shield and sword, suitable for strategic battles.
– Staff: Exclusively for Chronomancers, allowing them to use long-range magic attacks on enemies.
– Warhammer: A powerful hammer for dealing damage to multiple opponents.

Each weapon used in different time-traveling journeys has attributes that can be enhanced for the characters you are using. Equipment and skills can be upgraded, and upon reaching the maximum level, higher-ranked characters may be introduced in the future.

Bosses

Defeating smaller monsters allows players to earn items and token rewards. However, to obtain valuable NFT rewards, players must take down end-level bosses in missions and complete adventures. Some of the bosses include:

– The Blight: Highly intelligent, dangerous mechanical entities that often work in groups.
– The Underlings: Cunning, otherworldly humanoid beings resembling a mix of cat and frog, hidden in secret hideouts.
– The Guardian XL: A highly durable mechanical entity capable of withstanding direct attacks.
– Broken Clockies: Multifunctional maintenance robots.

NFT Assets in the Big Time (BIGTIME)

NFT items are used solely for cosmetic purposes and do not affect gameplay or character strength. The development team emphasizes maintaining balance in the game and avoiding “pay-to-win” scenarios to ensure the project’s long-term development and direction.

Space NFT

Space NFTs function similarly to LAND in Decentraland and The Sandbox. They are not tied to a fixed location and cannot be shared but are linked to the player’s Big Time account. Space NFTs come in five rarity levels: Rare, Epic, Legendary, Mythic, and Exalted, and three sizes: Small, Medium, and Large. Larger and rarer Space NFTs provide more storage slots, increasing the chance of producing high-quality items.

There is a fixed supply of 600,000 SPACE NFTs. A portion of these was sold in a public sale in December last year, with players being able to acquire SPACE NFTs on the Big Time Marketplace or OpenSea.

SPACE NFTs in the game do not require an initial investment, as Big Time is a free-to-play blockchain game. Holding and using SPACE NFTs enables the creation of cosmetic NFTs that enhance the visual appearance of weapons and armor without affecting their in-game stats.

Cosmetic NFTs

Cosmetic NFTs can be collected in the game, crafted, or purchased from other players through the marketplace. These NFTs enhance the look of players’ weapons and armor, adding unique visual effects and sounds, without affecting gameplay.

Players primarily craft cosmetic NFTs using Armories and Forges that they operate.

Utility NFTs

Utility NFTs are unlocked by expanding the Time Machine with SPACE NFTs. Players can unlock utility NFTs during their Big Time adventures and use them as materials to enhance character strength within the game.

Economy in Big Time (BIGTIME)

In the Big Time game, there will be a token called $BIGTIME, which serves as the primary in-game currency used for crafting items and trading cosmetics between players. To earn $BIGTIME tokens, you need to possess Hourglasses. When your character is equipped with Hourglasses, you will receive $BIGTIME tokens during missions or when defeating an enemy.

Hourglasses come in various categories, including Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, Mythic, Exalted, Exotic, Transcendent, Unique, and more. Equipping rarer Hourglasses yields more $BIGTIME during combat.

Ways to Earn in Big Time (BIGTIME)

There are several ways to earn money while playing Big Time, such as:

1. Crafting items and selling them to other players (requires Space and Utility Collectibles like Armory, Forge, or Time Warden).
2. Completing missions to earn $BIGTIME tokens (requires equipping Hourglasses).
3. Renting out NFTs and receiving payment.

Development Team

To realize their ambitious vision, Big Time Studios has assembled a team of standout individuals, including 25 seasoned “warriors” from the gaming industry, with experience at companies like Epic Games, Blizzard, EA, and Zynga. Some of their notable previous work includes Decentraland, Fortnite, God of War, Call of Duty, and Overwatch.

Ari Meilich – CEO (Advisor & Co-Founder at Decentraland): Hailing from Uruguay, he studied at the University of Buenos Aires and Hunter College with a major in Philosophy and Neuroscience.
Thor Alexander – CPO & Co-Founder: With a wealth of experience in game development, virtual reality, and machine learning, Thor has worked as Vice President of Production at Decentraland, as well as Chief Operating Officer at Zynga and Lucky Puppy, LLC.

Matthew Tonks – CTO (Fortnight, Gears of War): A graduate in Advanced Software Engineering, Matthew also co-founded BitMonster in 2012 and has worked with Drifter Technology as Chief Technology Officer and Epic Games as a Senior AI Programmer.

Other team members include Carlo Arellano (World of Warcraft, God of War) as Art Director, Martin Sweitzer (Fortnite, Gears of War) in the role of Lead Engineer, Aaron Smith (Fortnite, Gears of War) as Head of Design, TJ Stamm (Call of Duty, Medal of Honor) as Lead Designer, Brian Alexander (Overwatch 2, Defiance) as the Principal Writer, Doug Wilson (Ultima Online, Command & Conquer) as Chief Executive Officer, and Tom Zhao (League of Legends, Sky: Children of the Light) responsible for ideation.

Project Funding Rounds

Big Time (BIGTIME)

In two funding rounds, Big Time Studios successfully raised $21 million. The first round attracted $10.3 million in investment from major funds in the industry, including FBG Capital, North Island Ventures, Digital Currency Group, OKEx Blockdream Ventures, Alameda Research, Circle Financial, and Ashton Kutcher’s Sound Ventures.

In the second round, the project secured a total of $11 million in funding. This capital will be used to invest in gaming companies that utilize Big Time’s technology.

Conclusion

As a shining star among the thousands of GameFi projects in 2023, Big Time (BIGTIME) is expected to lead the way. However, before this can happen, it needs more time to refine its product to meet the community’s high expectations.
