Successful Deployment of Dencun Upgrade

The highly anticipated Ethereum Dencun upgrade event of 2024 has officially been successfully deployed.

Dencun successfully deployed

After numerous deployment efforts, Dencun encountered significant challenges as Ethereum developers underwent multiple unsuccessful upgrade attempts, leading to continuous adjustments to the initial roadmap from 2023 until the end of February 2024.

However, at 13:55 PM on March 13, 2024 (UTC), the Dencun upgrade – a combination of Deneb (Consensus update) and Cancun (Execution update) on the Ethereum network – was officially deployed at epoch 269568, in accordance with the established schedule.

The “sassal.eth” account belonging to The Daily Gwei founder also announced the official deployment of the Dencun upgrade on the Ethereum mainnet, bringing along a series of expected EIP proposals aimed at expanding the network’s capabilities.

Layer-2 Arbitrum’s account X also indicated that it would take approximately 1-2 hours for transactions to be included in the EIP-4844 data blob, allowing for the changes introduced by Dencun to be felt.

In addition to EIP-4844, other EIPs included in the upgrade are:

EIP-1153: Reducing storage fees on-chain, improving block space.

EIP-4788: Enhancing design for bridges and staking pools.

EIP-5656: Introducing minor changes related to the Ethereum Virtual Machine.

EIP-6780: Removing the opcode SELFDESTRUCT, which could terminate smart contracts.
