According to Reuters, a notable incident recently occurred outside Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Coachella, California. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office reported that on October 13, they arrested 49-year-old Vem Miller, a man from Las Vegas. Miller was found carrying an illegal handgun, a loaded pistol, and a high-capacity magazine while attempting to enter the event area.
Sheriff Chad Bianco revealed that Miller had tried to use fake VIP and press credentials at the checkpoint. Bianco stated:
These items were enough to raise concern. We may have prevented an assassination attempt.
However, the FBI has a different perspective. They believe Miller may have been carrying the weapons for self-defense and found no indication that he intended to attack Trump. Therefore, the incident is not being considered an assassination plot.
Miller is described as a “sovereign citizen”—part of a group of extreme libertarians who believe the government has no authority to impose laws on them. He is a registered Republican, holds a master’s degree from the University of California, and ran for the Nevada State Assembly in 2022.
When questioned, Miller neither confirmed nor denied any intention to assassinate Trump. He is currently out on bail, having posted $5,000, and is scheduled to appear in court next January on charges of illegal weapons possession.

Notably, this is the second time in just three months that former President Trump has narrowly escaped danger. In July, during a rally in Pennsylvania, he avoided a bullet fired from a distance of 150 meters, an incident that left one person dead and two others injured. In September, another assassination attempt occurred at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, where an attacker, hiding in the bushes, targeted Trump but was detected and apprehended by Secret Service agents after attempting to flee.
