The story was quickly reshared by the Instagram account associated with the WATER memecoin. The image in the story features Messi with the memecoin’s logo “peeking” over his shoulder, creating an intriguing visual effect. Although the Twitter account of this memecoin has over 185,000 followers, it had been inactive for a long period until today.

This incident is reminiscent of the case involving famous fighter Hulk Hogan earlier last month when he also unexpectedly promoted a mysterious memecoin. However, Hogan’s posts were swiftly removed, and the fighter himself denied any involvement. Consequently, after the post from Hogan’s Twitter account was deleted, that memecoin lost about $15 million in market capitalization.

According to the official website, the WATER memecoin was created “in collaboration with the brilliant minds” behind BEER – another Solana memecoin that experienced extreme volatility last month.

The website also emphasizes:

WATER is a meme coin with no intrinsic value or expectation of financial return.

Immediately after the post appeared on Messi’s Instagram account, the price of WATER surged by over 55%. However, there was a subsequent correction, according to data from CoinMarketCap. Currently, there has been no official confirmation from Messi or his team regarding this move.

At present, interested investors can buy and trade this memecoin on exchanges such as Bitget, BitMart, and MEXC.
