Layer 1 Sei Announces Second Airdrop Azc

Sei, a Layer 1 blockchain built on the Cosmos SDK, recently conducted its second airdrop, distributing 27 million SEI tokens to users on the evening of May 28 (UTC). This airdrop is part of “Phase 2” in preparation for the upcoming launch of the Sei V2 upgrade, which will be compatible with the EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine).

In this airdrop, Sei distributed over 27 million SEI tokens to 43,052 active contributors since the Sei Mainnet launch in August 2023. Users can now check their eligibility for the airdrop, but claiming the tokens is not yet possible. Eligible users must complete the eligibility verification before “Phase 3” of the Sei V2 update begins. Once Phase 3 starts, the SEI tokens will be automatically transferred to the wallets of eligible users.

This second airdrop targets users who have enhanced the Sei network’s security through staking and liquid staking, as well as those holding NFTs from top collections within the Sei ecosystem. Snapshots for staking participants were taken on May 16, and for NFT holders on May 24.

The number of SEI tokens airdropped to eligible wallets is based on a points system as follows:

Point

  • 1 Point: 200 SEI
  • 2 Points: 3,000 SEI (approximately $1,650)
  • 3 Points and above: 6,000 SEI (approximately $3,300)

Readers can check their airdropped tokens here.

However, some users have reported not receiving the airdrop despite being eligible. The Sei Foundation is currently addressing this issue and will provide updates to allow users to recheck their eligibility.

According to a blog post from the Sei Foundation on May 29, this is only the second airdrop, indicating that more airdrops are planned for the future. Despite negative reactions to the first airdrop, this second distribution has successfully improved Sei’s reputation, attracting more users to the upcoming Sei V2 upgrade.
