Harvard University Invests $117 Million In Bitcoin Etf

According to the latest filings submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Harvard University has invested nearly $117 million in BlackRock’s Bitcoin ETF as of the end of Q2 2025.

This move marks a significant shift in the investment strategy of one of the world’s most prestigious universities and reflects the increasing acceptance of digital assets among major educational institutions.

Harvard’s Investment Portfolio

Harvard currently manages an investment portfolio valued at $84 billion, which includes significant investments in:

  • Microsoft: $310 million
  • Amazon: $235 million
  • Booking Holdings: $182 million
  • Bitcoin ETF (BlackRock): $117 million
  • Meta Platforms: $120 million
  • Alphabet: $114 million
  • NVIDIA: $104 million

Notably, BlackRock’s Bitcoin ETF has become Harvard’s fifth-largest investment, an impressive achievement that underscores the growing appeal of digital assets among major financial institutions in the U.S.

With this investment, Harvard ranks 29th among a total of 1,300 organizations holding BlackRock’s Bitcoin ETF. This figure reflects a strong investment trend from educational and financial institutions into the cryptocurrency market.

Open Policy from President Trump

The increasing interest in Bitcoin ETFs can also be attributed to recent policy changes. President Donald Trump signed an executive order allowing pension funds in the U.S. to invest in alternative assets, including private securities, real estate, and cryptocurrencies.

This decision has “opened the floodgates” for a group of institutional investors with total assets of $12.5 trillion to access the crypto market, creating a powerful new wave of investment.

Harvard’s strong investment in the Bitcoin ETF, as a symbol of traditional education and finance, sends a positive signal regarding institutional acceptance of cryptocurrencies.
