Wormhole can utilize AMD’s FPGA hardware accelerator chips to scale up the “Light Client” based on zero-knowledge proofs technology.
The cross-chain infrastructure solution Wormhole will collaborate with hardware giant AMD to enhance the scalability of the “Light Client” based on zero-knowledge proofs (ZKP) and reinforce the security of cross-chain transactions.
ZK-proof “Light Clients” are solutions that allow users to verify transactions on a blockchain without needing to download the entire transaction history of that chain. This helps reduce the required resources and speeds up transaction verification. However, creating and verifying ZK-proofs requires significant computational power. Therefore, Wormhole has decided to collaborate to leverage the superior processing performance of the FPGA accelerator chips Alveo U55C and U250.
FPGA chips are designed to be reprogrammable, allowing for performance optimization for specific tasks. In this case, AMD will collaborate with Wormhole to optimize FPGA chips for ZK-proof algorithms, helping to minimize verification time and enhance transaction processing capabilities.
In addition to providing chips, AMD will also share expertise in hardware acceleration to support organizations contributing to Wormhole in developing and deploying “Light Client ZK“. This will accelerate development and improve the performance of the Wormhole ecosystem.
The Wormhole Foundation evaluates the collaboration with AMD
CEO and co-founder of Wormhole Foundation, Dan Reecer, stated that the collaboration will bring many benefits to users and developers within the Wormhole ecosystem:
- Enhance security: ZK-proofs protect personal information and transactions from being exposed.
- Improve efficiency: AMD’s FPGA chips accelerate transaction verification and processing speed.
- Scale up: This technology allows Wormhole to support more users and transactions.
In the coming months, organizations contributing to Wormhole will begin deploying mainnets for various “Light Client ZK“, including the Light Client ZK based on Ethereum developed in collaboration with Succinct Labs.
Wormhole’s ultimate goal is to create secure communication channels between major blockchains such as Ethereum, Near, Solana, Aptos, Sui, and Cosmos. This integration will significantly contribute to addressing challenges related to scalability and ensuring the security and decentralization of the system.

This latest information comes just two weeks after Wormhole announced the airdrop of “W” tokens and a four-year tokenomics plan. According to the plan, the maximum supply of “W” is 10 billion, with an initial circulating supply of 1.8 billion USD allocated to various categories, including running transaction verification nodes, community and token issuance, ecosystem and incubation, core contributors, network participants, and foundation treasury.
